For Biram Dah Abeid, founder of Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement (IRA-Mauritania) http://ira-usa.org/, in the last country in the world to abolish slavery (1981), Mauritanian activists are arrested and imprisoned for fighting the practice. The government denies it. Through non-violence, IRA publicizes cases, assists victims and holds demonstrations. –Aidan McQuade
